London Reunion Update
We are currently looking for a venue. The plan is to have the event in a bar in Clapham (or similar area), where we can reserve a private section to meet up, drink cocktails and chat the night away.
The first part of the evening will probably be girls only, but it is proposed that partners join us for the "After Party" (how long since you heard that terminology?)where we will go out get some more drinks and maybe even get in a spot of dancing!!
All this is subject to change, so keep an eye on this space!!

London Reunion Update

Apologies for being slightly remiss in organising this - exams!! I thought it would be best if we voted on which day to have the reunion. I've narrowed it down to 3:
1st September (pre rugby world cup and still warm)
8th September (fun to have it on the same day as the Durbs reunion? but during world cup)

I've avoided July and August because after a quick canvass, a few people are away.

Anyway, this is what friends of mine (and no doubt yours) were sent about their DHS reunion in 2006.

I trust this will find you well. As you know, it is the class of 1996's ten year reunion next year.
DHS are putting together an evening on Friday the 2nd of June 2006 for many of the classes. The evening will entail a cocktail function from 5pm til 7:30 with the class of '96 followed by a sit down dinner in a marquee on the fields with seven other classes having their reunion. The dress code is smart casual.
On Sat 3rd June, it is founders day and a festive time will be the order of the day with rugby being an excuse to get together.
Your spouses or partners are most welcome. It will be a wonderful occasion to find out where we all are ten years down the track.
The cost of the evening is R250 a head (I know it's expensive, but will be well worthwhile and we have a few months to save!)
Please could you deposit your money into the following bank account (xxx) and please reference the deposit with our matriculating year and your initial and surname;
ie "1996 R. Mun-Gavin", and then fax a deposit slip through to Liz Foster at DHS on fax number +27 31 2771555.
This needs to be finalised and monies paid by 31 March 2006, so please spread the word and get this in. Please copy me in on any emails so I can get email addresses and continue to organise.

DGHS Past Performers

Durban Girls High- 125 year’s young!
Established in 1882 Durban Girls High School has been molding the lives of the fairer sorority of Durban for over a century and a quarter now, and in this, our 125th year, we are delighted to reconfirm the continuation of our service to the community through the numerous events we have planned in celebration of our anniversary. On the 7th of March we kick off our Celebrations with a special assembly and commemorative flag raising ceremony which is followed in April by the school production of the Harper Lee Classic, “To Kill a Mocking Bird.” Tickets will be available through the school and your support will be greatly appreciated.
On the 12th of May we are proud to invite all past pupils to the Founders Day tea and Luncheon. In the evening we will be hosting the Founders day Dinner which will be accompanied by a show. In this regard we’re calling all past Durban Girls' High pupils who took part in school productions over the previous 25 years. Monday Update
Morning All!
We now have contact details for over 100 people!!!! That's almost halfway to the full number of girls who were in our year. For those of you who haven't received one of these emails before.... You are about to be bombarded with mail from everyone!!
Just a suggestion.... There seem to be a lot of people in Australia who can't make either of the reunions due to budget limitations. Why don't you have a mini-reunion in Oz? Then if we organise video messages to be recorded at all of them, we could compile the messages from all three reunions and send a copy to everyone who wants one.
I met up with Raeesa Aniff, Sheryl Cartmell and Amy Fairbairn on the weekend here in the UK. Unfortunately we were chatting so much that we didn't manage to actually discuss the reunion much. No date set yet, but it's almost definitley going to be an evening/afternoon, involving drinking and chatting in London. I still need suggestions for dates and venues. I am also contemplating coming back for the Durban one in September, but no promises yet!!
Here are Candice's latest ideas for the Durban bash:
"I am also leaning towards a girls night at a venue, were we can pre-arrange catering.
Bonny is right we need to work on a budget, so please everyone mail with suggestions.
With regards to the suggestion about including families, a friend of mine did there schools reunion, they did it at the school, bought in outside caterers ( guess it was a lamb on the spit ) and included all the families. They arranged jumping castles and entertainment for the kiddies, and said it was a great success. Another idea!!!
I guess it is going to come down to a vote, looking forward to the outcome."

Venue ideas

I know its tradition to have the reunion at the school, but lets remember that we have been out of that school for 10 years now... thats 10 years that we've been free of following archaic/old traditions. Perhaps its time to break the mould. Its our reunion and I think we can have it where ever we want, we don't neccessarily need to subscribe to tradition. I'm not saying I don't want to have it at the school, I'm saying we shouldn't feel obliged to have it at the school if we don't want to. I don't know what anyone else thinks? The floor is open for discussion!

I'm back
I'm back from Prague (Had a wonderful time there - it has to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world.). I couldn't stop myself from adding a pic to the site to prove it!!

Update 1 - Contact list
I've been putting together a list with all the email addresses and details that I have, and now I'm sending it around so hopefully we can fill in a few more of the missing gaps. If you would like a copy just send me an email. If you can't open Excel files let me know and I'll change the format.
I got the complete list of names by getting my younger sister to read off the names from the class photos in the school magazine to me over the phone (my mag is back home in SA), so there might still be people missing if they didn't make the photo. My apologies in advance for any misspellings too!!
Update 2 - Durban/KZN Reunion
Candice has suggested that the reunion be on a Saturday in Septemeber - So send in any problems you might have with dates then.
Also, Megan Kanz (nee Redhead) has offered her farm in the Midlands as a venue. It seems like a really nice place, but we need to know if people would be willing to travel to Nottingham Road, or if they would prefer a venue in Durban itself.
I'll post this info on the blogsite, so you are welcome to comment there. Otherwise send any suggestions to me or Candice.
Update 3 - Photos and Music
Start collecting photos of yourself and friends. Candice wants to put together a photo wall for the Durban reunion, and I'm keen to put them all on a DVD as a souvenir.

I have spoken to my mom who works at DGHS, and she is going to get contact details for most of the teachers who have left the school. Mrs Woudberg will be able to liaise with those still at the school and other people have offered to contact various teachers they know. I've started making a list of teachers, which is also on the spreadsheet, but it's not yet complete. Let me know anyone you want me to add.

More ideas....
Julie Reid has suggested contacting Mrs Hutchings, Mrs Trimble and Mrs Armstrong.... (I'm on the case!)
She also suggested sending photos beforehand to create a Photo Wall at the actual reunion.... Any volunteers to co-ordinate that??
As a fun thing to do, Julie suggested compiling a CD with music from 1997, as a gift at the reunion. She has volunteered to compile this if people are keen.
Idea from Deanne - If we all send digital photos (maybe one from matric and one from now), maybe we could have a Photo DVD compiled with the 1997 music playing in the background as you view the pics....

She also suggested sending photos beforehand to create a Photo Wall at the actual reunion.... Any volunteers to co-ordinate that??
As a fun thing to do, Julie suggested compiling a CD with music from 1997, as a gift at the reunion. She has volunteered to compile this if people are keen.

Founders Day Celebrations

Founders Day is going to take place on the 12 May and there will be a musical extravaganza from 4 – 8 June. Founders Day will be a special gala dinner. We are hoping to have a lot of support for these activities. We have old girls on our 125 th birthday committee helping. More details will come out – on the web site.

Raeesa Anniff says: Lets all go for a weekend reunion in the Greek islands!
Angela Ayers says: She can't leave the US, so why don't we charter a jet and all fly to visit her!!
On a more realistic note:
Megan Kanz (Redhead): Has offered that the SA reunion could be held on her farm in Nottingham Road where she runs a Sports Therapy business for horses.
Isabelle Marais (Bernadi): Has suggested that those who can't make reunions should send video messages. She has offered to compile them all. (Deanne says: Perhaps people want to send messages even if they are going to attend... then we can distribute a video to everyone who wants a copy in both the UK and SA... and the rest of the world!!)
Caren Bennetts: Has suggested inviting teachers...
Back to Deanne..... I have asked Mrs Woudberg to send me any teachers' contact details and there are a few still working at DGHS. I've managed to get a message to Miss Cuthbert (now Mrs Ostrehan), but haven't heard if she is keen yet. She is in the UK, and I tracked her and her hubby down through their running club (she is still into all kinds of adventurous sports!!)
Using my amazing Googling skills, I think I have a phone number for Mrs Fouche (who is now in the UK).... But I'm really bad at making telephone calls..... Any volunteers to call her up? Raeesa were you in her class?
Who else in particular would people like me to find? Back at DGHS I think there is still Mrs Martin, Mrs Bastable, Mrs Swift, Mrs Willis (who can probably contact Mrs Harrison), Miss Prior, etc.... Find full list here...... I'm sure Googling could unearth a few more people though. I also found a number for Mrs Erlich (She's in SA working as an estate agent for Wakefields).
Anyway..... Keep sending ideas.

Volunteer Found
Hi all
I don't mind organising the South African one, I have become quit the party co-ordinator since finishing school, I just completed my companies year end function.
Maybe we could put a commitee together, with some of the Durban girls.
It would probably be better to have the S.A reunion later in the year, I have a feeling a few people would fly in, and then they have enough time to budget. As far as venue etc we will have to get cracking on that.

Volunteer Needed
Hello again all
It's great to see everyone leaving comments. I have already got back in contact with quite a few old friends, and it's interesting to hear about everyone's families and careers. I was really pleased to find out that Raeesa lives in a village just close to where I am in the UK (I thought that there was nobody I knew for miles!!!).
It seems that London and Durban will probably be the best places for reunions, although there are a few folks in the States and other places. I'm happy to help organise the UK one. Raeesa has suggested that we all book a trip to the Greek islands over the summer.... That would definitely be fun, but might be tricky to find a date to suit everyone. What do people think? Please email me any other ideas. Potential venues in London would also be useful, as I don't live in London itself.

10 years Reunion
Hello to Everyone from the Class of 1997!!
Looking at the details on SA Reunited and The NamesDatabase it seems like as a group of adventurous young women, we have spread ourselves across the globe!!
Since 2007 is the official 10 years since school milestone, it would be really great to catch up on everyone's news, and find out a few contact details for those we lost touch with.
I am currently in the UK and would be keen to attend a reunion here, as well as possibly in SA (depending on my finances later in the year). :)
The idea is that you leave a comment on the site, with your name, a little info about what you're doing now, and any ideas or requests about a good time and place for a reunion.
If you don't want to leave contact details online that's completely understandable, but still leave a message and/or drop me an email to let me know how to contact you. I can also then put any friends who don't have your address in touch (with your permission of course!)
I will leave the first comment as an idea how it works... Click on the title "10 years Reunion" to see all the comments submitted.
